D89 Administrators Strengthen Their Support for Dual Language Programs
District 89 leaders are continuing their commitment to helping students become bilingual and biliterate by participating in a two-day training focused on the C6 Biliteracy Framework, a nationally recognized approach to strong dual language instruction.
On April 23–24, 2026, principals and district administrators attended professional learning sessions to deepen their understanding of the effectiveness of dual language programs. The training included key topics such as balancing English and Spanish in the classroom, integrating language and content, and building cultural awareness.
On the first day, national dual language expert Dr. Medina led engaging discussions with administrators about best practices in dual language education. Leaders also reflected on better supporting teachers and students in creating strong bilingual learning environments.
The second day gave administrators a chance to see real classrooms in action. They visited two dual language schools in the district, observed lessons, and looked for examples of strong biliteracy practices. These visits helped school leaders better understand how to support teachers and strengthen dual language programs districtwide.
“This experience gave our administrators a meaningful look at what high-quality biliteracy looks like,” said Melissa Sepulveda, Director of Bilingual Services. “It helps ensure that every student in District 89 receives a strong, supportive bilingual education.”
District 89 continues to invest in professional learning that helps school leaders grow and supports the success of its dual language students.
